The Swami Malai Trek is a short, peaceful, and scenic trekking experience. The trek gradually climbs through green surroundings, stone steps, forest patches, and quiet hill paths. Along the way, you can enjoy fresh mountain air, bird sounds, charming butterflies, Tall trees, seasonal greenery, and views of the Eastern Ghats en route to the summit.  

The trail is easy and beginner-friendly, making it suitable for families, first-time trekkers, perfectly suited for both kids and older people alike.

The highlight of the trek is the summit, where wide views of Yelagiri’s valleys, villages, and rolling hills create a rewarding finish. It is an ideal experience for anyone looking for a simple half-day adventure, nature walk, and peaceful hilltop viewpoint."

Swamimalai, located in the yelagiri hills in Tirupathur district, is part of the Eastern Ghats mountain range. The trek starts at the village of  Mangalam and goes uphill amid lush green natural surroundings and leading to the top most point of Yelagiri hills with a 360 degree panoromic view just next to the Swami Temple.  

Swami Malai Trek is available in multiple slots every hour starting from 07:00 in the morning and till 01:00 in the afternoon.

Time : 7:00 am

At Swami Malai Trekking Counter

The initial part of the trail passes through simple rural pathways, local landscapes, and open natural surroundings from the Mangalam Village. Park your vehicle and take the trail to report at the Swami malai trekking ticket counter,which is the base point of the Swami Malai Trek. This is where the trek begins. Meet the guide or trek coordinator, complete the basic check-in process, and get a short introduction about the trail, safety instructions, walking pace, and important things to follow during the trek.

 

Uphill Climb

Walk Through the Forest Path

As the trail moves further from the village, trekkers enter a more natural forest route. The path includes dry forest patches, stone steps, mud trails, small rocky sections.

The trail continues with a steady uphill climb toward Swami Malai. The route is not extremely difficult, but it does require a comfortable walking pace and basic stamina. Trekkers can take short breaks whenever needed while enjoying the views of the nearby hills and valleys along the way.

Viewpoint

Time : 8:00 am

Swami Malai Hill Temple

After the rest point, the trek continues towards the upper section of the hill. This part of the trail may feel slightly more challenging due to the incline, but the scenic views and calm environment make the climb enjoyable.

Upon reaching the summit, get rewarded with beautiful panoramic views of Yelagiri Hills, surrounding valleys, villages, farmlands, and rolling landscapes. The viewpoint offers a peaceful and refreshing experience, making it the highlight of the trek.

You can spend time at the top also can relax for a while, take photographs, enjoy the scenery, and experience the calmness of nature, enjoying the cool breeze, open views, and quiet hilltop atmosphere before beginning the return.

Descend

Return back to Mangalam Village

Start descending through the same trail when you feel you have  spend enough time at the summit. The downhill walk gives trekkers another chance to enjoy the forest path, village views, and natural surroundings at a slower pace.
